It was a beautiful morning here in Washington. The clouds lifted and haze-filtered sunlight illuminated Washington’s most well-known monuments. We couldn’t have asked for better weather as we walked down the National Mall from the Washington Monument towards the Lincoln Memorial. We then made our way towards the White House. As we were walking, police sirens could be heard in the distance quickly approaching. We looked over and saw several police motorcycles speeding by towards the White House. It was pretty clear that somebody important was coming through. We walked closer to the White House and into an ever-increasing police presence. The U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division was very visible. As a person with an interest in federal law enforcement and other national security matters, it was cool to see them as they went about their protective duties. It was certainly a very unique experience as we walked past the residence of arguably the most powerful person in the world in the city that is filled with many powerful interests.
